Talk-show host Chris Howell recently launched The Chris Howell Foundation, which aims to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS in locations that need it most. The organization’s inaugural event, Know Your Status Dallas, took place February 6th and provided HIV testing in the heart of Dallas. Due to its success, The Chris Howell Foundation has planned a second Know Your Status event for May 21st at the Mattie Nash Myrtle Davis Recreation Center in West Dallas.
Howell was inspired to start the foundation after witnessing the tragic effects of HIV/AIDS in his own family. “Having endured the loss of my own brother to HIV/AIDS in 2006, I am extremely passionate about this cause and will do anything in my power to help. It’s an honor to use my platform to get the word out in hopes of preventing others from experiencing the pain my family and I have been through,” said Howell.
The first Know Your Status event generated over 4 million media impressions and was recognized by the Texas Senate Office. The Dallas Mayor’s office also proclaimed February 6th as Know Your Status Dallas Day. Testing was provided in partnership with Dallas County Health and Human Services, and several celebrities and public figures spoke, including award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph.
The second Know Your Status Dallas event will be held in West Dallas, an at-risk area. Much like the first Know Your Status event, this one will provide education and testing to promote awareness and to provide resources to the community.
The event is free to the public and will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21st. To learn more about the event, visit knowyourstatusdallas.com. To learn more about The Chris Howell Foundation, visit chrishowellfoundation.org
